I’ve decided to print a bunch of my photos to hang up. Or something. Is that lame? Is it inappropriate to display your own work? I’ve been struggling with this for a long time, but these photos make me happy so fuck it.
All of ‘em are up on the photo blog.

On photography

For some reason I’ve been dying to start shooting film again. I’m going on a bunch of mini-trips this summer - to my cottage, to Montreal - and working on some video sets and I think shooting those situations entirely on film will be really neat.

I have one camera coming in the mail soon (hopefully), and it’s a format I’m not familiar with. It’ll be my first medium format camera and everything about is different. From loading the film, to metering an exposure, setting focus. I’m excited for a new challenge, and maybe this will get me out shooting again. I want to pick up a photo scanner so I can get my film prints online. I have stacks and stacks of photographs sitting around that nobody is ever going to see.

I used to spend a night a week teaching high school students darkroom practices at a multipurpose studio downtown, and its sad thinking about how much fun I had watching my prints develop. Trial and error, photoshop the old fashioned way. I’d give almost anything to get back into it again. Costs aside, it’s entirely feasible this summer. Despite starting work again full time next week, I’ve left myself with 3 nights off to do with what I want. Mondays are allotted to rock climbing, Wednesdays and Fridays have not yet found a purpose. Maybe I could squeeze a little darkroom time in again? It sure would be nice to spend my nights with some good tunes and a few rolls of film, making prints.

I’m starting a new series called photogenic cats. Few more to appear on the photo blog later, maybe.Alternatively, cats with dirty habits. Check out that cigar!
